GHS has experienced a lot of new changes between the school years of 2013- 2014 and 2014-2015, some changes including staff.
. Blake Waddell was the head of the Social Studies Department and had been both a football and baseball coach at Germantown High before becoming an assistant principal in 2014. His new responsibilities include 12th grade discipline, testing, fundraisers and poster approval.
One challenge presented to Waddell this year was handling athletics, especially with changes from the establishment of municipal schools. With GHS remaining with SCS, it is now part of SCIAA, the Shelby County Interscholastic Athletic Association. This change has required some extra work regarding scheduling, and making sure coaches have proper training in regard to CPR and concussion awareness.
Despite the all the adjustments, Waddell is happy to begin his administrative career here where he began teaching. Sometimes leaving the classroom for an office brings different change.
“It's not necessarily a bad thing but the depth of the relationships that you have with students is not prevalent. You still get to see students but it's not the same as coaching or teaching,” Waddell said.
Of course, change can bring some positives.
“Flexibility would be. And having my own bathroom is great,” Waddell said.
