Former Germantown High student, Omar Gathings, is currently missing.
According to The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, “He went missing from Cordova, TN on August nineteenth of this year.”
Gathings was enrolled in Germantown High, but as of Sept. 4, 2013, his name was no longer in the system.
While many are unaware of Gathings and his disappearance, some students just have questions.
“I knew he was a really happy person from what I knew. He was always laughing and stuff. He never seemed depressed, or like the type to run away to me anyways. He didn’t really talk about his family other than his siblings,” a junior, who chose to remain anonymous, stated.
Students are also remembering times spent with their former student.
“He was a happy person. Usually he was an outgoing person,” junior Chloe Rehkopf stated.
Due to certain protocols the Germantown High officers and principal were unable to comment on Gathings or this investigation.
Even as recently as Sept. 15, posts regarding Gathings disappearance are showing up on Facebook feeds like “Germantown High School Parents” and “Germantown Municipal Schools” and list Gathings as an “Endangered Runaway.”
If you have any information regarding Omar Gathings, please contact Shelby County Sheriff’s Office 1-901-545-2677.
