The loss of Germantown High’s principal of two and a half years, Ted Horrell, has brought new changes to the school. Former vice principal Barbara Harmon is now principal and former assistant principal Chauncey Bland is the new vice principal. Bland is excited about his new position.
“I was busy before, but now it’s a different kind of busy…grading issues, transcripts, report cards, anything that has to do with academics,” Bland said. “In ‘A’, I was basically in charge of discipline and athletics. “
Bland stressed that he and Harmon both wish to continue doing all that has previously been put into place by Horrell to help better the school.
“We’re just trying to not necessarily revamp it, but see if we can make it better and keep growing,” Bland said.
Next year, Germantown students can assume that they will have both a principal and vice principal.
“From my understanding, they will post the principal’s position – assuming Mrs. Harmon gets the principal’s position, then this position [vice principal] will be open, and I will either apply for this position or apply for my own school,” Bland said.
As of now, Bland’s goal is to continue this year on a path of success.
“I just want to do a good job,” Bland said.
