Track season is well on its way, and the Germantown boys’ track team with the addition of a new coach has the team more excited than ever to make it to state.
“It’s very interesting and challenging in a good way to experience coaching here at Germantown; I feel like I have very big shoes to fill since our last assistant coach was Coach Gibbs. Both of our throwers Robert Ruth and Terrell Brown qualified for sectionals and I’m very proud that I was able to coach them,” said assistant coach Will Kelley.
Along with this success come some obstacles. However, despite these blocks, this sport offers its own rewards off the track.
“One of the tiring things though would be how having all of this senior stress on us and still having to make it to practices and all the meets with extra time for school work. Being able to leave school and go on track field trips would probably be one of my favorite events track has to offer,” said senior Deion Rivers
While some face issues off the track, some face injuries, common in track and all sports. One senior, though, has been able to overcome his injury.
“I tore my hamstring earlier on in the season, but I made a pretty fast recovery so I was able to continue out the rest of the season. I just know that I’m really excited for what my future with track has in store for me beyond high school,” said senior Jalon Edwards.
With the postseason coming up, the track team has high hopes of reaching their team and individual goals of reaching state.
