Only a few days away, homecoming helps GHS students show their school spirit.
“I love homecoming week because you can dress up,” senior Tori Hudgings said.
Hudgings isn’t the only person around the Germantown campus who is excited. SGA sponsor Sylvia Hancock and principal Dr. Ted Horrell are also eager to see what homecoming week will hold.
“I’m really excited about homecoming. The SGA seem to be on top of it. They’ve planned ahead, making a lot of decisions that sometimes get put off like the dress up days and the hall themes; they’ve set a day for powder puff and they are trying to put a dance together,” said Horrell.
The matchup versus Kingsbury on Sept. 27 will be followed by a dance in “M” gym, an event that hasn’t happened in years. However, enough student support early on has helped the dance to move forward.
Of course, most students look forward to the dress up days.
“I love dressing up wacky or crazy or whatever the day calls for,” senior and SGA president Wesley Dacus said.
Dacus confirms the dress up days for homecoming week. Monday will be “Disney day,” Tuesday will be “country day,” Wednesday will be “zoo day,” and Thursday will be class distinction. The overall theme for Thursday will be holiday: seniors are Halloween, juniors are Fourth of July, sophomores are Christmas, and freshmen are Valentine’s Day.
Although there is much fun to offer during homecoming week, SGA members and seniors encourage more participation from underclassmen.
“They only have four years to do it and they should take every opportunity to participate,” senior Joseph Rodgers said.
Although Horrell does not plan to participate in the dressing up, senior Austin George will do whatever it takes to get full participation from students.
“Honestly, if you don’t come to school dressed up, you may or may not be put in a trashcan,” George said.
