Latin teacher Morgan Arant returns to Germantown as the official Latin teacher.
Q: What was the most useful college course you have ever taken?
A: Ooh, that’s a good one. I gotta say, I loved all my Greek courses for my major, but I think my accounting class. I just took it for fun cause that was considered an easy class where I went, but I actually learned a lot.
Q: What type of student were you in high school?
A: Um, I don’t know. I was pretty quiet. I made pretty good grades, A’s and B’s, but I definitely slacked off in my math and science classes because I was a terrible student when it came to those subjects. I generally liked school. I was really involved with my church and youth group so I spent most of my extracurricular time there.
Q: What is your favorite age group to teach?
A: Definitely high school. I haven’t taught younger. I couldn’t imagine because I’m not good with little kids, and middle schoolers are annoying. I guess I naturally liked high school the best since I’m not that much older.
Q: Has Germantown as a whole been welcoming?
A: Yeah, definitely. The whole new teacher thing this year has been great. We’ve had meetings every week. It’s been really helpful; I’ve gotten a lot of good information. It’s nice how everyone has been checking in on me, like last year my mentor was basically nonexistent to what it is here. I feel like there is more support for me here.
Q: What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of the school?
A: I’m a huge sports fan, mainly basketball. I grew up watching college basketball, so of course the Grizzlies and stuff are awesome. When I was in college, I was a super fan for our college team. I have some pretty good stories but I won’t reveal those for the interview. I also sing in the choir at church. I’ve always sung throughout my life, so that’s really what I do.
