As of March, Germantown’s new principal has been solidified, presenting a solid future for GHS.
Principal Barbara T. Harmon has been a faculty member at Germantown High for thirty-six years and has worked in almost every office. She has had three children to graduate from Germantown and she also lives in the Germantown community.
Harmon intends to keep Germantown the same school that strives for excellence everyday.
“I don’t plan on changing anything about Germantown High; the only thing that will be different is our optional program,” stated Harmon. “Germantown has always had excellence in academics, fine arts, and athletics and I want to maintain that and continue it and make it better.”
While this new factor- the optional program- will extend this academic and fine art excellence, the remainder of one program is still being debated.
“Right now I don’t see anything that needs to change, but I am still carefully looking at the advisory period and making sure the kids are getting something beneficial from it,” Harmon said.
With her change has come other administrative changes, and Mrs. Harmon is very happy and ready to work with her new administrative staff.
“They are great, and I think they are going to come right in and do a great job because they all have a lot of experience,” Harmon said.
Another potential change Harmon is tackling involves the zoning changes for some current GHS students.
“We aren’t going to forget about our students that are here already. We want them to stay, and we plan on placing them in the best classes possible for them,” said Harmon.
Harmon also has special plans for the seniors.
“I’m trying to let the seniors out just a little bit earlier this year because we have a late graduation,” Harmon stated.
With her experience, Harmon will be well equipped to become the leader of GHS into its new chapter.
“I love this school, I admire our faculty, and our students are super. I believe that Germantown High is going to continue to be the great school that it has always been except it might just be even better, and I’m looking forward to our future,” Harmon stated.
