It's November and the Germantown men’s basketball team is ready to rumble!
Tryouts are over and with the first few games under their belt, Coach Marvis Davis sees great potential in the 2013-2014 team.
“I think they’re going to do really well. We have a lot of good talent out there. We’re returning two seniors that were starters last year. So I think we’ll be just fine,” said Davis.
As a returning senior, Jake Miller has improved, and is ready to help lead the Red Devils to victory.
“Jake Miller is becoming more of a better all-around player versus just a shooter, which he kind of was in the past,” said Davis.
Also a senior, Timothy Shaw is coming bigger and better this year, adding fuel to the fire.
“Tim Shaw is definitely becoming a much better team player. He was always very athletic and gifted individually, but now he’s a better all-around player as well,” said Davis.
According to Davis, sophomore Jacob Ivy will be sure to catch everyone's attention this season.
Both senior players recognize a change from last season that might contribute to the team’s early success.
"I feel like we had a lot more talent last season, but this season's team plays a lot harder and work better as a team," said Shaw.
With a win of 66 to 55 over Fayette Ware for their first game of the season, Miller and Shaw feel that they played hard and got the results they wanted. However, Miller does feel that there is still room for improvement.
"We could definitely improve on rebounding because we're really small, but Coach Davis is putting us through a lot of drills in practice so we're looking to rebound a lot better," said Miller.
The team now holds a 2-1 record and looks forward to a successful season, which involves one key factor.
"We need everybody to come out and represent," said Davis.
