It’s almost time for the class of 2016 to move on from the home of the Red Devils. The road from adolescence to adulthood is a long and bumpy one, and the transition to the real world is even more treacherous. Thankfully, GHS has plenty of activities for seniors to participate in.
“From what I’ve heard, there’s going to be a big picnic,” stated Courtney Garrett.
Seniors can also find themselves involved with non-profit work this year.
“Make-a-Wish has been an ongoing project within the school,” SGA President Evan Hoover mentioned.
With these events, however, it seems as though they are the only activities a majority of students are aware of.
“There’s the picnic, but I think that’s it. I haven’t heard much,” said Garrett.
SGA is responsible for senior events, but seniors are coming up uninformed of their options.
“As SGA President, I feel it’s my responsibility to ensure it’s the best year possible,” stated Hoover.
This task can be hard for the members of SGA, especially with their very limited power in the school.
“We could possibly have a senior breakfast and a senior movie night. The faculty really doesn’t let us do much,” stated senior class president Tithia Brunson.
Senior Tyrek Hodges voiced his opinions of the SGAs work so far this year.
“SGA? I don’t know much about what they’re going to do, but I think they’ve done a good job with what they have done,” said Hodge.
It’s important that what the students want be voiced to SGA, but it needs to be done in the right way.
“We try to take considerations of the school but we don’t really get formal suggestions. A suggestion needs to be more than ‘Hey you should do this.’ It needs to be concrete,” stated Hoover. “You’d have to talk to a teacher and start everything as soon as possible.”
With that in mind, getting the seniors ideas out to SGA is important this year.
“I would love to take a senior field trip. It’s something I’ve heard of at a lot of other high schools. Incredible Pizza, maybe Putt Putt Golf, we have a lot of options,” said Abel.
Garrett also suggested some ideas of her own.
“I’d love to do sack races, or maybe a senior field trip since the seniors last year didn’t have one. We should do something we’ve never done before,” said Garrett.
Other seniors have other ideas as well.
“I think it’d be cool if we all get involved in community service projects together as a senior class,” suggested Mosley.
With the right amount of cooperation, seniors can expect a great year.
