As summer rolls around, students are feeling free and better than ever. The summer music festival scene technically started towards the end of the school year, making it hard for students to attend. Luckily, once school gets out, the music fanatics are able to pick from a plethora of concerts to attend.
In the state of Tennessee, there are about five festivals coming up over the 2015 summer span:
Bonnaroo- June 11-14, located in Manchester, TN
CMA Music Festival- June 11-14, Nashville, TN
Ink-N-Iron- August 6-9, Nashville, TN
Americanafest- September 15-20, Nashville, TN
Pilgrimage Music Festival- September 26-27, Franklin, TN
Of these five, Bonnaroo is the one most students know.
“It’s in Manchester, TN and it seems like an amazing experience. There are always incredible artists there and everyone I’ve talked to that’s been has said it’s life changing and something they’ll never forget,” said sophomore Caroline Sadler.
Although it seems fun and carefree, cost and safety are always factor. Ticket costs for one person alone can run from $300 and up. Bonnaroo’s ticket for one person costs $330, which is your entrance fee alone.
The safety factor can come in from a parent’s perspective, the typical “what is my child doing right now? Is s/he safe? Are they having fun? I should call and text them.” These worries can be tough since most festivals are out of town and also sometimes lack cellular reception. This is a big factor in the decision to travel to a festival over the summer in state or not.
Another festival a little farther from home is Lollapalooza in Chicago. Cost alone is $275 excluding any travel expenses. For those interested but not able to attend, some can access it through a livestream.
For some, their love of music even inspires them to look worldwide for festivals.
“One of the music festivals that I want to go to when I turn 18 is Tomorrow World. This festival is in Europe and it’s one of the biggest festivals in the world. There are so many DJs attending and so many races come together from around the world just for the music. Feeling the vibe of everyone coming together would be life changing. It’s my dream to go to that festival,” said junior Maria Estrada.
All in all, no matter what festival you pick, be prepared. Make sure you have a list, supplies, cash, maybe some extra cash of course, and hey even a double up of the supplies. You want your experience to be the best it can and for sure go as smoothly as possible. No matter which festival you choose this 2015 summer, enjoy!
